College Notes: K-State Basketball Won't Have Fans This Month

In Wichita, Kellis Robinett noted Kansas State basketball fans hoping to watch games live at Bramlage Coliseum this season "will have to wait until at least December in order to do so," since K-State's men’s and women’s basketball teams "will play home games inside an empty arena through the remainder of November." The school originally planned on playing home basketball games "in front of approximately 3,000 fans (or 25% capacity) this season but decided to temporarily change course, citing the rising COVID-19 numbers across the area" (WICHITA EAGLE, 11/18).

BIG TEN BASKETBALL WITHOUT FANS TO START: In Indiana, Mike Carmin notes Purdue's men's and women's basketball games staged inside Mackey Arena "will be played 'indefinitely without fans in attendance.'" That is because the Big Ten, which is allowing only parents and family members of players, coaches and staff members to attend football games, will use the "same approach ... during both and men's and women's basketball seasons." IU on Tuesday announced that "no fans will be allowed at Assembly Hall for men's and women's games until further notice" (Lafayette JOURNAL & COURIER, 11/19).

LET'S MAKE A DEAL: In Raleigh, Chip Alexander reports N.C. State has "asked that it be allowed to play 11 men’s basketball games" at PNC Arena in the '20-21 season and "pay a lower rent per game." N.C. State said that limited capacity for indoor events in the state had "led the university to seek what it said would be a temporary adjustment." The university "pays $58,000 per home game in accordance with the arena use agreement." The school asked that the rent be "lowered to $13,925 per a game, which it said was an estimate of PNC Arena’s game-day expenses under the capacity restriction" (Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER, 11/19).
