Russell Wilson Exec Producing Feature Film From Game1 Studio

Seahawks QB RUSSELL WILSON is executive producing a new feature film about a Pittsburgh-area high school football team that set the record for longest winning streak in the late '50s. The film, “Braddock,” is being written and directed by GREGORY CARUSO and developed by sports content studio game1. “I was watching ESPN late one night, and … a Massachusetts high school team was approaching the longest winning streak of all time,” said Caruso. “I became curious and started doing research about the history of that streak.” That search led him to the '14 GREG NICHOLS book “Striking Gridiron,” which Caruso bought the rights to in '16 and based the script upon. The film will center on the Braddock Tigers’ '59 season, during which coach CHUCK KLAUSING and the team, fresh off five straight unbeaten seasons, were closing in on the national undefeated record. JOSHUA JACKSON and KATE BOSWORTH are set to star as Klausing and his wife, JOANN. Wilson and his production company, West2East Empire, were connected to the project in late '18 through CAA, which represents both Wilson and Caruso. “That was extremely important for the project,” said Caruso. “He really appreciated the story and wanted to be a part of the team, and he wanted to help get it to the next level and to a production company.” "Braddock" is expected to enter production in '21.

GAME1 MAKING ITS MARK: The project landed at game1 earlier this year. The recently launched studio has already been making waves thanks to a wide-ranging slate of projects currently in development, many of which have attached A-list athletes both in front of and behind the camera. In addition to Wilson, game1 has also attached the likes of Rockets G JAMES HARDEN, Texans QB DESHAUN WATSON, DANICA PATRICK and former Spanish soccer player DAVID VILLA to its upcoming films and series. “We are thrilled to partner with Gregory and Russell on such an amazing and emotional project,” game1 co-Founder BASIL IWANYK said in a statement. “These are the kinds of stories that the world needs to see and hear right now -- ones filled with hope, perseverance, and inspiration.”
