NBA's Silver Praises Warriors' Forward-Thinking Approach

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver attributed some of the recent success the Warriors have had to team co-Owner Joe Lacob and his ownership group having a "venture capitalist mind-set" in that they are "future oriented and they seek value, as opposed to the typical venture capitalist, these are old-school, hands-on managers," according to Connor Letourneau of the S.F. CHRONICLE. Silver said, "Lacob is truly the CEO of the team. He is not the prototypical investor who's using this as a portfolio asset. He is working on Warriors matters seven days a week. He is one of the most engaged governors in the entire league." Despite the Warriors not being one of the 22 teams to play in the Orlando bubble, Silver said Lacob "was still incredibly active as an NBA owner in all of the protocols we were establishing." Silver added Lacob "ended up being a close advisor to many of us in the league as we all collectively work through these issues together." Silver: "Joe is playing that same role now as we look to establish what the appropriate protocols are for restarting our next season." Silver said he sees fellow Warriors co-Owner Peter Guber as "more as a futurist." Silver: "I'd say Peter is more focused on what's coming next." Meanwhile, Silver said he thinks it is "realistic" fans in S.F. next season could have to take a rapid coronavirus test to enter Chase Center (S.F. CHRONICLE, 11/3).

NEW THREADS: In San Jose, Wes Goldberg notes the Warriors yesterday "unveiled a new jersey for next season that celebrates the franchise's 47 seasons in Oakland." The new Nike City Edition jerseys are "stylized in the Warriors' old dark blue and orange colors, and have 'Oakland' displayed across the front." Along with the jersey, the Warriors "have partnered with Oakland-based apparel company Oaklandish to launch a limited-edition clothing line inspired by the theme." Next year, the Warriors "will unveil a new outdoor basketball court in Oakland inspired by the 'Oakland Forever' jerseys" (San Jose MERCURY NEWS, 11/3).
