Franchise Notes

In N.Y., Mark Cannizzaro notes most of the city's sports teams "have been struggling," with the exception of NYCFC and the Red Bulls. The Yankees "made a playoff run, but they’re the Yankees, and they’re always in the mix," while the Islanders "provided a nice diversion with a spirited run in the Stanley Cup playoffs." Cannizzaro: "But that’s been about it." The Red Bulls and NYCFC have "qualified for the MLS playoffs." Cannizzaro: "They’re all we’ve got right now" (N.Y. POST, 11/2).

ON THE FLOOR: The Mavericks on Friday unveiled a "new, retro court design" for the '20-21 NBA season. The design, entitled “The Hardwood Classic Court,” "celebrates the franchise’s 40th year," and it "radiates serious throwback vibes." The cowboy hat at center court "reminds us of a simpler time, when short shorts, big hair, J. R. Ewing and Reunion Arena were the coolest things in the world." This blue and green concept is "sure to be more popular with Mavericks fans" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 10/31).
