Source: Titans Could Be Fined By NFL But Escape Major Punishment

The NFL and NFLPA have "concluded their investigation into whether the Titans violated COVID-19 protocols," and the organization "could face a fine, but no individual punishments or forfeiture of draft picks are forthcoming," according to a source cited by Erik Bacharach of the Nashville TENNESSEAN. The source said that the joint investigation "found the Titans' 'messaging to players was insufficiently clear' as it related to not gathering once the team facility closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak." The source also said that the investigation found "instances in which Titans players and staff failed to comply with the requirement of wearing masks in the facility." The source added that the Titans were "fully cooperative during the investigation," which found that the club had "spent considerable resources and time during the offseason to bring the facility into compliance and has since made more adjustments to the facility" (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 10/20). In DC, Mark Maske reports the violations cited in the investigation into the Titans "could form the basis for a fine of the team by the NFL." But a source said that the league has "not made a decision about a fine." NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell last week said that the "focus of the investigation was safety, not discipline" (WASHINGTON POST, 10/20).
