Nick Krall Takes Over Baseball Ops For Up-And-Coming Reds Team

Reds GM Nick Krall yesterday was "named the new head of the Reds' baseball operations department," according to Bobby Nightengale of the CINCINNATI ENQUIRER. He will "keep his same GM title," but he will "report to owner Bob Castellini and assume the duties" of former President of Baseball Operations Dick Williams, who resigned Oct. 7. Following Williams' resignation, the Reds are "eliminating the president of baseball operations role." Krall "met with a group of people," including Castellini and Reds President & COO Phil Castellini, "shortly after Williams made his decision to step down" two weeks ago. Krall became the Reds' GM in May '18 and worked alongside Williams, where he was "involved in all the day-to-day operations." Krall said that he "didn't expect much change in his day-to-day duties," except he now "will be reporting to Castellini instead of Williams." There "could be some tweaks to front office roles underneath him" (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 10/20). THE ATHLETIC's C. Trent Rosecrans noted Krall "did sign a new contract." Meanwhile, many teams are "seeing massive layoffs in baseball operations," but the Reds are "expected to have relatively little turnover." Sources said that the team "enacted pay cuts throughout the organization during the layoff," but "restored those cuts before the end of the season" (THEATHLETIC.com, 10/19).
