World Series Games Sold Out To Globe Life's Limited Capacity

Fans watching the NLCS generally wore masks and often maintained distance from one anotherGETTY IMAGES

The World Series starts tomorrow at Globe Life Field in Arlington, and all seven World Series games already are "sold out at around 11,500 capacity," according to Paul Sullivan of the CHICAGO TRIBUNE. Globe Life Field "basically is a petri dish" for MLB. But it "appears many aren't overly concerned about the possibility of contracting COVID-19 in an open-air park" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 10/17). In N.Y., David Waldstein noted MLB allowed around 10,000 fans per game for the NLCS in Arlington, and among more than two dozen people interviewed over two days at Globe Life Field, "no one seemed overly concerned about the spread of the coronavirus." Several ballpark employees said that they were "comfortable with the precautions and appreciated having the work." Chris Harkey, a Braves fan from Asheboro, N.C., said, "It's got a kind of Super Bowl-ish feel to it." Waldstein noted fans "generally wore masks and often maintained distance from one another." But as each game "wore on and the beer flowed, some masks fell down around necks as the shouting increased." The majority of fans at the park "seemed to be supporting the Braves, with a slightly smaller contingent rooting for the Dodgers." The third-largest group consisted of those wearing Rangers jerseys and caps, "acting as both hosts and mostly neutral observers" (N.Y. TIMES, 10/18).
