Dellavedova Among Aussie Athletes to Invest in Fusion Sport

Fusion Sport, maker of the Smartabase athlete management system, announced a $5.5 million funding round. The round includes investments from several star Australian athletes, including Cleveland Cavaliers guard Matthew Dellavedova.

Melbourne-based Fusion Sport previously raised rounds of $3.2 million and $3 million over the past two years, according to Crunchbase. Sydney-headquartered Equity Venture Partners led the most recent round.

John Eales, the former captain of Australia’s national rugby team, participated as a returning investor. Also taking an equity stake is Athletic Ventures, a fund recently founded by Dellavedova and about 25 other Aussie athletes across basketball, rugby, cricket and the AFL.

The NBA used a white-label version of Fusion Sport’s Smartabase platform for its MyHealth app in the Orlando bubble. Smartabase has adapted for new data sources such as bluetooth thermometers and Oura rings, while also adding a COVID-19 symptom health check feature.
