Majority Of Purdue Football Ticket Holders Move Funds To '21 Season

Nearly two-thirds of Purdue football season-ticket holders "elected to apply their funds from the 2020 season to next year," according to Mike Carmin of the Lafayette JOURNAL & COURIER. Purdue said that 65% of season-ticket holders -- which accounted for $4.33M in revenue -- "decided to use the funds that paid for the 2020 season tickets for the six-game 2021 home schedule." Season-ticket holders were presented with two other options -- "donate to the More Than A Game campaign or request a refund." About 19% "asked for a refund," in which $1.23M was returned to season-ticket holders, and 16% "donated to the campaign," accounting for $1.04M. The athletic department launched the More Than A Game campaign "to off-set a projected $50 million shortfall when the Big Ten football season was postponed." Since an abbreviated season is scheduled to be played, Purdue and other Big Ten departments are "expected to receive at least a portion of the media rights revenue from the league office" (Lafayette JOURNAL & COURIER, 10/12).

GREASE THE TURNSTILES: In Memphis, Evan Barnes notes the Univ. of Memphis is now "selling a limited number of single-game tickets for its home football games after the Shelby County Health Department changed social distancing guidelines for sporting venues this week." The athletic department said that fans "could purchase tickets online for one of Memphis' five remaining home games or purchase a five-game package for as low as $125." Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium will now seat "nearly 12,000 fans compared to just over 4,500 for the Tigers' season opener on Sept. 5" (Memphis COMMERICIAL APPEAL, 10/12).
