Saints Could Move "MNF" Game To Indianapolis Due To Hurricane

The Saints are “considering evacuating to Indianapolis” tomorrow ahead of Hurricane Delta making landfall, and team officials have “discussed a contingency plan with the NFL to play their Monday night game against the Los Angeles Chargers there,” according to sources cited by Jeff Duncan of THE ATHLETIC. Team and league officials “will monitor the storm on Wednesday before deciding in the afternoon whether they will evacuate.” The hurricane is “expected to hit Louisiana on Friday evening.” Indianapolis is the preferred destination because of its “accessibility, small downtown footprint and team officials’ familiarity with its infrastructure.” The Saints evacuated to Indianapolis in ‘08 due to Hurricane Gustav and practiced there ahead of their season-opener that year. Lucas Oil Stadium is “available for practices this weekend because the Colts play the Browns on Sunday in Cleveland.” Saints officials “have already secured a block of 150 rooms at a hotel within walking distance of the stadium” (THEATHLETIC.com, 10/7).
