NRG Esports Co-Owner Reacquires OpTic Gaming, L.A. CDL Rights

NRG Esports co-Owner & CEO Hector Rodriguez has "reacquired OpTic Gaming in a deal separate from any ties associated with NRG," according to Kevin Hitt of THE ESPORTS OBSERVER. Sources said that after negotiations "spanning a little over a month, Rodriguez purchased the OpTic Gaming IP in its entirety and in practice the Call of Duty League slot associated with the Los Angeles franchise." Sources added that Rodriguez "intends to divest" his acquisition of the L.A. CDL team to interested esports organizations, though that plan "still needs league approval." Hitt noted the CDL "must approve the change under the assumption that Rodriguez would divest the slot through a sale as he has an ownership stake in the Chicago Huntsmen through NRG." In June '19, Immortals Gaming Club acquired Infinite Esports & Entertainment, parent company of OpTic Gaming and the OWL Houston Outlaws, in a deal valued at $100M. Rodriguez left OpTic Gaming in September of that year (ESPORTSOBSERVER.com, 10/1).
