Raiders Look Into Whether Player-Hosted Event Violated Protocol

Raiders Owner Mark Davis said that the team is "looking into why several players were not wearing masks" while attending a Monday charity event held by TE Darren Waller's Foundation that "broke Nevada rules for the coronavirus pandemic and might have violated NFL regulations," according to Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com. Players "were seen on video without masks at the indoor event while talking and mingling with guests, who also weren't wearing masks." Davis said, "Guys have to be more stringent in fighting the virus." Rules from the NFL and NFLPA "limit what players are allowed to do away from team facilities this season," and players are "banned from attending any event that 'violates local and state restrictions'" (ESPN.com, 9/29). In Las Vegas, Bonsignore & Davidson note the event "drew a crowd of more than 100, according to an attendee, twice the state limit in effect on Monday of no more than 50 for indoor gatherings." While the Raiders "did not officially organize or host the event, they did lend some assistance." This comes after Raiders coach Jon Gruden was "fined $100,000 by the NFL for not wearing a mask" during the team's "MNF" game against the Saints. The Raiders also are reportedly "under investigation for allowing a non-credentialed team employee into their locker room after the game against the Saints" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 9/30).
