First NFL Player Misses Game Due to Positive COVID-19 Test

Atlanta Falcons cornerback A.J. Terrell is the first NFL player to have missed a game this season because of a positive COVID-19 test. His positive test was taken on Friday, though the results were not known until Saturday, at which point he was placed on the team’s reserve/COVID list.

Terrell was inactive for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears, which was played after all other Falcons players and personnel had tested negative for the virus on Saturday. The Falcons also performed contact tracing to determine any individuals who might have been in close proximity to Terrell.

All NFL players and key personnel are wearing Kinexon tracking devices at team facilities this season. According to NFL Network, contact tracing deemed that no Falcons players had close contact—within six feet of someone for at least 15 minutes—with Terrell.
