The 76ers named HBSE VP/Corporate Partnerships Brittanie Boyd Senior VP/Marketing and CMO Katie O'Reilly Chief Revenue Officer, further proof the organization remains a "paragon of diversity and inclusion among professional sports franchises," according to Marcus Hayes of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. Last month, the team and HBSE committed $20M to social justice initiatives, and two weeks ago the Sixers hired 31-year-old David Gould to the "newly created post" of Chief Diversity & Impact Officer. Boyd will work on "two boards aimed at increasing diversity in the industry." She said that the goal is a "50% representation in power positions by women and minorities within the next decade." But she added that while numbers are "important," so is "shuffling upward" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 9/24).

EXTENSION COMING FOR BRAND? In Philadelphia, Keith Pompey writes 76ers GM Elton Brand has been "given credit publicly for most of the Sixers' key decisions" since he was named GM two years ago, but the owners and other front-office personnel have been "more deeply involved than the team has admitted." Still, sources said that Brand "met with the team’s ownership on Monday to discuss a new contract." Sources added that Brand was "expecting to get a three- or four-year deal." Several sources believe that Brand is "in line to get a contract due to being on the front line taking the hits for the organization." Sources also have said that the team was "inquiring about the possibility of hiring a president of basketball operations." Pompey writes looking for someone to add below Brand "isn’t surprising to league sources, who always questioned ownership’s seriousness in regard to giving up its control to a team president." However, it "will be interesting to see if the Sixers make a run" at Rockets GM Daryl Morey for that job. Brand is "heading up the Sixers' head-coaching search" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 9/24).
