MLS Launches Voting Initiative

Major League Soccer has launched a league-wide voting initiative aimed at getting people to vote in the upcoming Nov. 3 general election.

MLS United to Vote was formed in partnership with the MLSPA and Black Players for Change, a group of more than 100 Black MLS players seeking social justice reform in the U.S.

The league has created a website that directs people toward online voter registration, how to check their voter registration status, nearby polling locations, and state-by-state information for voting by mail. Several MLS clubs also announced their own voting programs. 

MLS has also partnered with Power the Polls, an organization focused on recruiting young people who may be at lower risk of bad COVID-19 outcomes to work local polling sites on Nov. 3. More than half of the poll workers who served in the 2016 and 2018 elections were over the age of 60, an age group that is at higher risk of contracting serious illness from the virus.
