Media Notes

NBC’s Ed Olczyk said that he is “pleased with how NBC has handled the process” of the split locations he and broadcast partner Mike Emrick are using during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Olczyk is inside the NHL's Edmonton bubble, while Emrick “has been calling games off monitors from his home in Michigan.” Olczyk: "We’ve navigated it extremely well, with all the hard work of our men and women behind the scenes, to try to get it as seamless as possible. At times I look over and I don’t see Doc [next to me]. It’s just sometimes a habit" (NEWSDAY, 9/18).

OFFICIALLY ON BOARD: Former NBAer Vince Carter formally signed a multiyear contract with ESPN. He will "serve as an NBA and college basketball analyst, appearing on studio shows" such as "NBA Countdown," "The Jump," "Get Up," "First Take" and "SportsCenter." He also will make appearances on "College GameDay" and "provide color for live broadcasts of NBA and ACC men's basketball games" (Daytona Beach NEWS-JOURNAL, 9/18).

LANDING ON HIS FEET: Former NBC Sports Philadelphia reporter Derrick Gunn has "lined up several new gigs" after being "laid off as part of broader cuts by parent company NBCUniversal." Gunn's ventures include a "podcast; weekly television, radio and YouTube shows; and the formation of his own media company to pursue a dream of doing voiceover work, motivational speaking and consulting" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 9/18).
