NFL Not Moving Trade Deadline Off Of Election Day

The NFL this week sent a memo to teams "laying out the procedures for closing all the club and league facilities for Election Day" on Nov. 3, but that also is the trade deadline, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The league is “conscious of this conflict,” but there have been no talks about moving the deadline. The memo stated “certain essential personnel” will be allowed to “be inside facilities” on Election Day. That includes “coaches, personnel people, video staff,” while the league office will be “sufficiently staffed to handle any player personnel decisions made that day.” That means there should not be any “logistical issues that bar deadline type of deals.” NFL Network’s Rhett Lewis: “Election Day and trade deadline day, November 3. Buckle up, we’re going to have some fun on that Tuesday” (“NFL Now,” NFL Network, 9/17).
