NFL Panthers Making Changes To Improve Diversity In Organization

Tepper Sports & Entertainment President Tom Glick said that the NFL Panthers have "begun making changes to improve diversity recruiting and hiring," according to Erik Spanberg of the CHARLOTTE BUSINESS JOURNAL. Glick said that the pandemic "has slowed progress in recent months." But he added, "That hasn't changed the importance of diversity and the priority we have placed on it. That continues. There's more that we want to do and need to do." Spanberg noted examples include "recruiting from other industries and a wider range of sources, how interviews are conducted and adding more employee resources to encourage and foster diversity." Panthers Owner David Tepper in regard to diversity within the organization said, "We've done a fairly good job at the upper management level. We've done an OK job through the corporation." Spanberg noted in former Owner Jerry Richardson's final year in '17, the Panthers had six senior executives that "consisted of five white males and one woman." Under the current regime, there are nine senior execs "made up of five white males, one Black male, one Black woman and two white women." Tepper said that he "has encouraged NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to think more about diversity hiring at league headquarters -- and received a positive response" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 9/17).
