Jets' Christopher Johnson Defends His Brother Amid Accusations

Depending on the results of November's election, Woody Johnson could be returning to the U.S. soonGETTY IMAGES

Jets Chair & CEO Christopher Johnson "defended his brother, Woody, the team owner, against the allegations that he has made racist and sexist remarks as the U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom," according to Brian Costello of the N.Y. POST. Christopher Johnson said, "First of all, he's denied it publicly. He's denied it to me. I've known him my whole life. We've spent so much time together. I've never heard him utter a racist or sexist word or perform an action that was racist or sexist. I believe him." Depending on the results of November's election, Woody Johnson "could be returning to the United States soon." Christopher Johnson said that he "will maintain a large role in the organization when Woody Johnson returns." Christopher Johnson: "We have discussed my role after he gets back. It will remain larger than my pre-ambassadorship role. Exactly when any of that happens is unknowable at this point." Meanwhile, Christopher Johnson has been "heavily involved in discussions with the team's players and coaches about social justice this spring and summer." The Jets decided to "remain in the locker room when the national anthem played" before Sunday's game with the Bills. Christopher Johnson said of their decision, "I couldn't be more proud of these guys, truly. I've been honored to be included in these conversations both with the whole team and individually in small groups" (N.Y. POST, 9/17).
