Delaware North Cuts Over 500 Positions Amid Pandemic

Delaware North "cut more than 500 positions this week at its downtown Buffalo headquarters and throughout the country" due to a "dramatic decline in airline passengers along with empty sports arenas nationwide," according to James Fink of BUFFALO BUSINESS FIRST. Delaware North "will eliminate 139 positions locally and a total of 517 across the United States due to the effects of Covid-19." Fink noted that is "on top of 6,500 Delaware North employees who remain on leave companywide." Company officials said that they were on pace to report $3.8B in revenues this year, a number that "may be reduced by as much as two-thirds." Sports venues "account for more than $1 billion annually in revenues for the company" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 9/16). Delaware North handles food and beverage at 25 North American major league sports venues and approximately 20 minor league and international stadiums and arenas, according to SBJ research (THE DAILY).
