Turner Sports has created a new online video game experience called “Blocklete Games,” which allows players to collect, train, trade and compete with unique digital athletes while potentially earning cash prizes. The games are built through a blockchain system that allows a secure and tamperproof way of sharing data because it logs the entire history of each file. The digital athlete, or Blocklete, can be leveled up and made more valuable -- and available to be sold or traded -- through an open marketplace. Blockletes are created using non-fungible token (NFT) technology, making it a one-of-a-kind piece of digital property with a special code signature. In addition earning rewards for excellent in-game performance, players will be able to create residual value with their Blockletes by customizing its abilities, appearances and accessories in order to create a one-of-a-kind digital collectible.”
A LA MODE: Game modes will include skills challenges which reward players with ability points that can be assigned in the form of attributes for the Blocklete. While modifications and upgrades such as a new hat or club will be available for purchase, in-game abilities are earned through play. By improving their attributes, Blockletes perform better and become more valuable in the marketplace. Users can also create challenges involving two or more players with no limit to the number of contestants they want involved. There will also be season-long tournaments with cash prizes, including $20,000 that will be awarded during the inaugural season of tournaments. In partnership with BitPay, fans can also purchase Blockletes and Blocklete collectibles using cryptocurrencies as a form of payment.
