Boise State Issues Second Round Of Furloughs, Salary Cuts

Boise State is undergoing a second round of furloughs and salary reductions “for all staff members making more than $40,000 a year,” according to Ron Counts of the IDAHO STATESMAN. Head coaches, execs and employees making more than $100,000 annually “will face salary decreases” from 8-15%, while furloughs “for the remainder of affected staff will range from four weeks to 12 weeks." Some furloughed staffers “will be temporarily reassigned based on university needs.” This latest round of cuts is "expected to save the department about $1.8 million.” BSU in April announced furloughs for all employees making more than $40,000 annually. BSU AD Curt Apsey last month indicated that the school “was facing at least $20 million in losses if there was no football season.” The school in July eliminated its baseball and swimming programs, “trimming about $2.2 million from the budget” (IDAHO STATESMAN, 9/17).
