Yahoo Sports App Debuts Watch Together Feature for NFL

Working in partnership with the NFL, Verizon Media unveiled a pair of new tools in its Yahoo Sports app on Wednesday that will encourage social viewing and enable fans to dig deep on NFL analysis. Verizon, the parent company of Yahoo, previously signed a five-year deal in late 2017 to livestream NFL games.

The Watch Together feature is available starting with tonight’s NFL season-opener being livestreamed on the Yahoo Sports mobile app. Each user can invite up to three friends to join a split-screen video chat that will also display a synchronized livestream of a game to create a virtual co-viewing experience. Yahoo’s Watch Together feature is only accessible on smartphones.

Also newly available is Yahoo Sports PlayAR, which will render immediate graphical replays through the use of the NFL’s Next Gen Stats tracking data. The Yahoo Sports app will generate avatars for all 22 on-field players and the football to recreate each play for users, while also augmenting real-time player and team stats from the game.
