Baylor-Louisiana Tech Football Game Postponed Due to Coronavirus Outbreak

Baylor football’s home-opener against Louisiana Tech has been postponed due to a recent outbreak of coronavirus on Louisiana Tech. The game was scheduled to be played this Saturday in Waco, Texas; the teams will discuss rescheduling the game for later in the season.

As many as 38 Louisiana Tech players recently tested positive for COVID-19, according to Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic. The program’s rise in virus cases is being attributed to necessitated travel due to Hurricane Laura, a Category 4 storm that hit Louisiana in late August.  

“It is obvious that the impact of Hurricane Laura in our community a few weeks ago really sparked our significant increase in numbers,” Louisiana Tech athletic director Tommy McClelland said in a statement. “With 95% of our city losing power for days—even up to a week in many areas—our student-athletes were forced to find places to stay and some even had family from south Louisiana that came northward to stay with them.”
