Clemson To Implement Social Justice Awareness Efforts This Season

Lawrence on Tuesday said that some of Clemson's plans will be on display this weekendGETTY IMAGES

Clemson's football team has been "planning ways to bring awareness to social justice on game days this fall," according to Matt Connolly of the Columbia STATE. Players have held several planning meetings prior to kickoff to "decide the most effective methods in which to bring awareness to social justice." In doing so, the players also met with Clemson coach Dabo Swinney, AD Dan Radakovich and President Jim Clements to "make sure that they were kept in the loop and approved of what was being proposed." Clemson RB Darien Rencher and QB Trevor Lawrence "declined to share specifics of what the Tigers will do on game days this fall." Their first game begins this Saturday against Wake Forest at Truist Field at 7:30pm ET and will air on ABC. Lawrence on Tuesday said that "some of Clemson's plans will be on display this weekend, while others will take place in the coming weeks" (Columbia STATE, 9/10).

DECAL DEACONS: In North Carolina, Conor O'Neill notes Wake Forest's football team had "already been discussing -- and decided -- what they could do to draw attention to racial injustices." The most visible aspect of those discussions "will be seen on the Deacons' helmets this season," as they "will have a clenched fist on both sides." Across the back of the helmet, normally reading "'Wake Forest,' will be the worlds 'Black Lives Matter.'" The team "plans on having the emblems displayed for the entire season" (WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL, 9/10).
