University of Colorado Becomes First NCAA Program to Sign Sports Betting Deal

Online sportsbook PointsBet has signed a five-year sponsorship with the University of Colorado, marking the first time that a sports betting operator has partnered with an NCAA program. The deal covers free-to-play sports games, daily fantasy sports, casino, online casino, and retail and online sports betting.

Colorado legalized online sports betting in May, though PointsBet currently only operates in New Jersey, Iowa, and Indiana. By the time PointsBet launches its mobile sportsbook in Colorado, the app will be promoted across the University of Colorado’s athletic venues, in-game radio broadcasts, and digital media channels.

“The five-year deal provides a financial boost for CU Athletics during a time when athletic department budgets nationwide are stressed by the COVID-19 pandemic,” reads a press release from the University of Colorado.

Founded in Australia, PointsBet recently broke ground on building its new U.S. headquarters in Denver. The new partnership will see the University of Colorado (which is based in Boulder, 30 miles northwest of Denver) develop a career placement program with PointsBet that’s tailored toward students pursuing careers in technology.
