Celtics Make $25M Commitment To Social Justice Issues In Boston Area

Celtics' plan includes a $20M cash commitment and another $5M in media assets and marketingCELTICS

The Celtics have announced a $25M commitment over the next 10 years to "fight racial injustice and focus on social issues in the Black community of Greater Boston," according a front-page piece by Gary Washburn of the BOSTON GLOBE. The league announced in August a $300M plan to "develop economic growth in Black communities." This Celtics plan, which includes a $20M cash commitment and another $5M in media assets and marketing, is "more extensive and will focus on several issues that plague Black and brown communities in Greater Boston." The program is "spearheaded" by Celtics Managing Partner Steve Pagliuca, VP/Player Development & Organizational Growth Allison Feaster and VP/Community Engagement Dave Hoffman. The organization has "formed six committees, which include players, to focus on specific issues." The team asked employees to "voluntarily join committees, and there was overwhelming interest," with the committees "meeting virtually all summer." The plan also includes "input from players." The Celtics "already have developed a plan to promote voter registration" (BOSTON GLOBE, 9/9). In Boston, Gintautas Dumcias notes implementation of the initiatives "is expected to be handled by a board of Celtics investors, past players and staffers." The board is "set to be announced in the 'coming weeks'" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 9/9).
