Trump Tweets On Big Ten, Suggests Playing Without Some Schools

President Trump "waded back into the Big Ten battle on Sunday," suggesting for a second time that Big Ten football "is 'looking really good' to return, after having postponed its fall season amid the COVID-19 outbreak," according to Tony Paul of the DETROIT NEWS. Trump this time added the Big Ten "may lose Michigan, Illinois, and Maryland because of those Governors' ridiculous lack of interest or political support. They will play without them?" Those three states mentioned "host five of the 14 Big Ten schools" (DETROIT NEWS, 9/7). In Detroit, Marlowe Alter noted this marked the "second time in a week Trump has tweeted about the sport" (9/7).

ROCKING THE VOTE? POLITICO's Derek Robertson writes under the header, "Could LeBron James Defeat Donald Trump?" The NBA is "throwing its weight behind voting access could have a huge impact on this fall’s elections -- and, therefore, the near-future not only of criminal justice reform, but of any number of longtime progressive priorities." James "heralded a new wave of NBA activism" with the founding of the “More Than a Vote” nonprofit and enlisted fellow celebrities including Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, comedian/actor Kevin Hart and singer Toni Braxton. However, "Will the celebrities’ do-gooding messages aimed at boosting participation actually ... do any good?" (POLITICO.com, 9/6).
