Jets Only NFL Team Not Conducting In-Person Player-Coach Meetings

Jets coach Adam Gase is know for limiting face-to-face interactions with playersGETTY IMAGES

The Jets are the only NFL team to "not conduct in-person meetings between players and coaches this summer," according to Manish Mehta of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. Twelve teams have had "daily in-person meetings exclusively (or with few exceptions) since the start of training camp," and 19 others have a "combination of in-person meetings and virtual sessions each day." The Jets have "chosen to remain in the virtual world despite having a sprawling, state-of-the-art 224,000 square-foot facility on a 27-acre campus complete with five full-length fields, 10 classrooms and 80,000-square-foot fieldhouse." It is "unclear whether the Jets will continue to have virtual meetings with players exclusively during the regular season." Sources said that there was a "two-fold reason why the Jets have not had in-person player-coach meetings." Ownership "did not want to spend the necessary amount of money to create an environment that would adhere to Environmental Protection Agency recommendations for proper ventilation," coupled with Jets coach Adam Gase's "reluctance to push back since he has a general preference to limit face-to-face interactions with players." One source said, "Everything goes back to ownership. Always" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 9/3).
