Syracuse Ditches Football Season Tickets, Bans Tailgating

Syracuse continues to plan in hopes it can host fans in a newly renovated Carrier Dome this fallGETTY IMAGES

Syracuse is "nixing season tickets and banning tailgating" as part of a series of new planning measures for the '20 football season, according to Nate Mink of the Syracuse POST-STANDARD. The school is "planning to offer a limited number of individual game tickets sold two weeks ahead of each game -- if fans are even allowed to attend." A note that went out to season-ticket holders Thursday morning said that their tickets "have been removed from their accounts because of the uncertainty surrounding the 2020 season." Syracuse continues to "plan for the possibility it can host fans in a newly renovated Carrier Dome this fall." Current guidance "restricts fans from attending college and professional sporting events in the state," though New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office "can lift those restrictions down the road." It is "unclear how many tickets will be made available for each game," as that "will be based on any capacity limits outlined by New York State." Fans who purchased season tickets "will have the option of transferring payment to be used as a donation, rolling over their tickets to the 2021 season or requesting a refund" (Syracuse POST-STANDARD, 8/21).
