Amazon Scores First Local MLS Streaming Deal with Seattle Sounders

Amazon has gained exclusive rights to stream all non-nationally televised Sounders matches to Prime Video subscribers in Washington State. The three-year deal kicks off with Sounders FC’s match against LA Galaxy on Aug. 26 and will run through the 2022 MLS season.

Amazon is effectively replacing YouTube TV, which has held exclusive rights to stream regionally broadcast Sounders games since 2018. Fans with cable will still be able to watch non-nationally televised Sounders games through the team's local TV deals with the FOX-owned KCPQ and KZJO channels.

Seattle becomes the second professional sports franchise to sell their local streaming rights to Amazon, after the New York Yankees signed a deal in March to stream 21 games per season on Prime Video. That deal was supposed to start this season but because of MLB’s shortened 60-game season, it won’t go into effect until 2021 at the earliest.
