The Massachusetts Reopening Advisory Board ruled that Gillette Stadium “could not host fans for Patriots or Revolution games at least through the end of September,” while the Red Sox “will finish out the season without fans at Fenway Park,” according to Peter Abraham of the BOSTON GLOBE. The Pats open the season at home against the Dolphins on Sept. 13 and host the Raiders on Sept. 27. The Revolution have three scheduled home games before the end of the regular season on Sept. 12. The Patriots and Revolution will contact ticket holders about refunds, though the Pats “remain hopeful of fans attending games later in the season” (BOSTON GLOBE, 8/19). In Boston, Erin Tiernan notes Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker had "already nixed fans sitting in stadiums until the state reaches the fourth and final phase of its reopening from coronavirus shutdowns -- a phase he has said won’t start until a vaccine or widespread treatment is available." The stadium has "enlisted the help a team of independent experts to guide its reopening plan" (BOSTON HERALD, 8/19).
