Cincinnati Reds Submit Plan For Fans to Return This Season

The Cincinnati Reds have submitted a plan to government officials and Major League Baseball for fans to attend home games at Great American Ballpark this season. The plan was approved by the city of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, but it still needs approval from the state of Ohio and MLB, according to The Athletic.

The 2020 MLB season has thus far been played in empty stadiums due to coronavirus restrictions. According to The Athletic, if the Reds’ plan receives full approval, fans would not return to their stadium until September at the earliest.

Great American Ballpark can seat up to 42,319 fans, but any plan for fans to return this year would be at a reduced capacity. Since MLB began its season in late July, two clubs (the Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals) have experienced coronavirus outbreaks.

According to the Los Angeles Times, MLB is considering playing its postseason in a bubble setting this October.
