MLS to Kick Off Regular Season Restart This Week

Major League Soccer announced plans to continue its 2019-20 regular season in each team's home market starting Wednesday. The league plans to finish its regular season by Nov. 8, and follow that up with an 18-team playoff that ends with the MLS Cup on Dec. 12.

FC Dallas and Nashville SC will play each other in the restart's first two games on Wednesday and Thursday. Both matches will be played at Toyota Stadium in Dallas and will allow a reduced capacity of 5,110 fans, per Texas law. Real Salt Lake and Sporting Kansas City also announced plans to host home games with limited fans when the MLS season resumes, but the majority of teams will not let fans enter their venues due to coronavirus restrictions.

Due to international travel restrictions, the initial phase of the MLS restart only includes matches between U.S.-based teams until Sept. 14. In early September, the league will announce a schedule for its three Canadian teams to resume play.
