Blackhawks Interim President Wirtz Discusses Team's Front Office Plans

Blackhawks interim President Danny Wirtz said the organization is "looking at everything" in regard to the leadership structure of its front office. Appearing on NBC Sports Chicago's "Blackhawks Talk Podcast," Wirtz said, "We obviously value the strength of having strong, accountable leadership, whether that’s on the business side, whether that’s on the hockey side, and clearly as an owner and ownership group and family, we always have been engaged in the business and we intend to be.” Wirtz said he is “very involved and hands-on” with the franchise in his role as interim president. On whether he might assume the role on a permanent basis, Wirtz said, “I intend to stay very engaged with the organization so whatever that looks like formally we’ll figure out." Wirtz said the team is "committed" to Senior VP & GM Stan Bowman." He added, "He has a multi-year contract, we’re going to obviously support that. We feel really good about that heading into next season.”

STICKING WITH NICKNAME: Meanwhile, Wirtz said the club as of now is keeping the Blackhawk logo as it is “cherished amongst our fans, within the league history, within our family and we’ve always tried to steward that logo with a tremendous amount of respect and honor." He added, "But we’re also not deaf to the feelings of others and of groups who don’t see it the same way” (“Blackhawks Talk Podcast,” NBC Sports Chicago, 8/3).
