Crew Show Renderings For Nordecke Section, Beer Garden At New Venue

The Crew "released new renderings of the Nordecke section and the 5,600-square foot beer garden behind the stands on the north end" of the club's new $300M, 20,000-seat downtown stadium set to open in July '21, according to Jacob Myers of the COLUMBUS DISPATCH. The Nordecke supporters' section "will have more than 3,300 safe-standing seats -- seats that fold safely out of the way in sections where fans stand for long periods." There will be "another 400 to 600 standing-room-only spots at the top of the north stands, making it one of the largest supporters' sections" in MLS. Complete with a "fog system and an area for the drummers in the section, the Nordecke will slop at a 34-degree angle, gradually increasing to 37 degrees -- compared to 20 degrees at Mapfre Stadium -- to create an effect of fans being more on top of the field and the noise projecting onto the field." Architecture firm HNTB Sports Practice Leader & VP Gerardo Prado, the stadium's chief architect, said that the canopy that will "cover the Nordecke and project sound onto the pitch will be 62,000 square feet" (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 8/5).
