Cowboys Create Task Force, Use Tech To Combat Coronavirus

The group of 10-12 Cowboys employees from various departments meets at least twice a weekCOWBOYS

The Cowboys formed a "COVID-19 task force" three months ago, and the group of 10 to 12 employees from various departments has "met at least twice a week, utilizing data analysis and metrics from the Duke Infection Control Outreach Network and consulting with epidemiologists from the Baylor Scott & White Health system," according to David Moore of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Even before the task force got together, the team already was "talking to a company called Applied Silver about its infection prevention technology that is EPA certified." The company’s SilvaClean technology "turns all laundered materials into active residual germ killers." That means uniforms, towels and "all other textiles that are treated continuously kill pathogens so re-contamination isn’t an issue." Those machines are "now at The Star to wash the close to 700 pounds of laundry a day the equipment staff does during training camp." Meanwhile, different research and pitches are "constantly being put in front of the task force." One involves "whether or not it makes sense to use drones to sanitize large sections of the stadium." No decision has been "made on that yet." Moore: "Expect it to be discussed when the task force meets in the next few days" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 8/2).

BUCS GOING DIGITAL: In Tampa, Eduardo Encina reported each Buccaneers player, coach and staff member "will wear a radio frequency-based tracking device to warn them when they are too close to each other." The device, "called SafeZone, is made by German-based company Kinexon." Kinexon "worked with several sports leagues to provide performance data, but once the pandemic hit it pivoted to designing a product using the same hardware to determine proximity of sensors in the tags." It took "just 3½ weeks to create a prototype and, after testing, the SafeZone tags helped" Germany's Bundesliga resume play. It now is "being used inside the NBA bubble in Orlando." Kinexon CEO Medhi Bentanfous said, “Before we were tracking every movement. ... The underlying data was already there. So it was basically changing the algorithm to just measure the proximity and just measure the distance between two sensors" (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 8/1).
