Nike Debuts New "You Can't Stop Us" Spot Amid NBA Restart

Coinciding with the NBA's long-awaited return is the "debut of Nike's third film in its empowering 'You Can’t Stop Us' campaign," according to Monica Marie Zorrilla of ADWEEK. Like the other two spots in the campaign, "You Can’t Stop Us," which has the same name as the overall campaign, "draws on the sense of community from being in a global pandemic and social isolation." However, unlike the other two spots, the third 90-second video also "touches on the feelings stirred by the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement." Narrated by USWNT F Megan Rapinoe and produced by Wieden + Kennedy, Portland, the film "celebrates the comeback of sports and the innovation necessary to make that comeback possible." It also acknowledges the "coming together of both fans and athletes to make meaningful social changes." The spot was "developed through research of over 4,000 pieces of footage," and famous faces and clips featured throughout the video include LeBron James, tennis player Naomi Osaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, Bucks F Giannis Antetokounmpo, Serena Williams and Colin Kaepernick (ADWEEK.com, 7/30). AD AGE's Ann-Christine Diaz noted Rapinoe delivers a "rousing speech alongside a series of 36 split-screen scenes that splice together dynamic moves of pairs of athletes, as if they are performing as one." The spot "pulls in what seems like all of the sporting world while addressing the ills affecting the world today" (ADAGE.com, 7/30).
