Arron Afflalo Leads Another Group Interested In T'Wolves Ownership

Former NBAer Arron Afflalo "has emerged" as another potential buyer for the T'Wolves, as Owner Glen Taylor "courts offers for the sale" of the NBA team and the WNBA Minnesota Lynx, according to Chris Hine of the Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE. Afflalo is "part of a group of two to five people" that was "expected to submit a bid by the end of the weekend." The group will reportedly "consist of a net worth" of $10B. Afflalo becomes "at least the third known party to have expressed interest in acquiring" the T'Wolves. He "would be the face of the group," with venture capitalist Brock Berglund "financing the buy" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 7/25). In Minneapolis, Sid Hartman wrote if Taylor finds a suitable buyer, it "will end one of the most important pro sports tenures in state history." The T'Wolves have had "struggles on the court, but the simple fact is that there wouldn't be a team on the court at all if it wasn't for the great effort put forth by Taylor to purchase the franchise" in '94 for $90M. At that time, if the T'Wolves were "unable to find a buyer to keep the club they were gone." New Orleans was "ready to welcome them." But that buyer was Taylor, "keeping the team local" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 7/26).
