Washington’s Football Team Gets a New (Temporary) Name

Washington’s football team will now be known as—wait for it—the Washington Football Team for the upcoming NFL season. The club plans to pick a new name and complete its rebranding next year.

Fans will be able to buy new team merchandise online via Fanatics and the NFL Shop in the coming days. The team has updated its logo and uniforms to reflect its name change—the new logo is simply the letter W—while keeping its burgundy and gold color scheme.

The team retired its old name, a racial slur against Native Americans, on July 13. The new branding has already debuted on Twitter. The team now plans to update that across all physical and digital spaces before its regular season opener at home against the Philadelphia Eagles.
