Twitch Creates New Streaming Channel Just for Sports Content

Amazon-owned Twitch has launched a new dedicated channel for sports programming. The TwitchSports channel launched on Wednesday with content streamed by the NBA, the EPL’s Arsenal FC, the UFC and ESPN’s House of Highlights.

Twitch also announced partnerships with Arsenal, Real Madrid, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain that will see the European soccer clubs produce exclusive content for the platform. According to SportsPro Media, those deals will include behind-the-scenes content, and clubs could even livestream exhibition matches.

Twitch began as a place where gaming enthusiasts could stream esports-related content, but it is now aggressively pursuing media rights in traditional sports. Through the NFL’s deal with Amazon, Twitch has streamed Thursday Night Football since 2017. Twitch also began livestreaming NWSL and EPL soccer matches earlier this year.
