Appetize Co-Founder Discusses Future Of Contactless Payment

Kevin Anderson, a co-Founder of point-of-sale company Appetize, explained during Part II of SBJ: The Road Ahead Virtual Series how sports venues’ concessions programs are moving toward contactless systems for payment. Anderson, who is also Chief Strategy Officer at California-based Appetize, noted, “The basics of what the concessions stand will look like: It's spaced-out lines, and you'll see concessionaires and operators start to incentivize people to pay with digital ordering and mobile payments and mobile-wallet forms of payment.” He also predicted fans will soon see more barcoded items for self-checkout, as well as “things like prepayment or pre-ordering online.” As for what he has learned about his business during the last five months, Anderson is now more sure than ever that his platform is “really ready” for the current situation. “It’s available,” Anderson said. “It’s off the shelf, and it’s ready for this post-COVID world, we think, more than any other platform today.”
