Woody Johnson Investigated For Alleged Racist, Sexist Comments

Jets Owner and U.S. ambassador to the U.K. WOODY JOHNSON was "investigated by the State Department watchdog after allegations that he made racist and sexist comments to staff and sought to use his government position to benefit" PRESIDENT TRUMP's personal business in the U.K., according to sources cited by Hansler, Atwood & Gaouette of CNN.com. The sources said that Johnson, who has held his ambassador position since August '17, made "racist generalizations about Black men and questioned why the Black community celebrates Black History Month." A source also said that Johnson's "comments about women's looks have been 'cringeworthy.'" Two other sources said that it was a "struggle to get him on board for an event for International Women's Day." Asked about the specific allegations, Johnson "did not deny them." It is "unclear how much the investigators focused on Johnson's inappropriate comments." But sources said that of "particular interest to them were allegations" that, after being asked by Trump, Johnson pushed to have the Open Championship "take place at one of Trump's golf properties" (CNN.com, 7/22).
