Braves Remove "Chop On" Sign From Ballpark, Change Slogan

The Braves removed a wooden "Chop On" sign that sat near a Truist Park entrance, and the club "changed its slogan from 'Chop On' to 'For The A' for the 2020 season," according to Charles Odum of the AP. The moves come after Braves Chair Terry McGuirk recently said that the team’s name “'will always be the Atlanta Braves' and the tomahawk will remain on the Braves’ jerseys." The club's position on the tomahawk chop tradition at games is a "different and unresolved question." Braves President & CEO Derek Schiller said, "Those discussions are still ongoing." Odum notes since there will be "no fans at Braves' home games for at least the start of the pandemic-delayed 60-game season, the team may feel no urgency to release a new policy on the chant" (AP, 7/20).
