International Electric Scooter Championship Will Debut in 2021

A new international racing series will feature professional riders on electric scooters that can travel up to 60 miles per hour. The Electric Scooter Championship will begin racing in major cities across the world next year.

The eSkootr Championship is hoping to recruit competitors from auto racing, cycling, skating, snowboarding, motorcycling and esports. Formula 1 driver Alex Wurz and Formula E driver Lucas di Grassi have joined as ambassadors to promote the benefits of electric transportation, such as environmental sustainability and cost effectiveness.

“The concept of a new series, operating on a global scale with professional participants, yet running with a carbon-zero footprint and offering solutions for a better, more mobile society is a fascinating glimpse toward a more accessible and sustainable way to go racing,” di Grassi said in a press release.

The Electric Scooter Championship was co-founded by CEO Hrag Sarkissian and COO Khalil Beschir, a beIN Sports Formula 1 commentator. The eSC plans to announce a technology partner later this year that will develop the scooter used in races.
