Univ. Of Houston Cuts Budget, Staffing Due To COVID-19 Losses

The Univ. of Houston athletic department announced "several cost reduction measures for the 2021 fiscal year due to the coronavirus pandemic, among them cuts in operating budget and staff but no elimination of any of the 17 varsity sports," according to Joseph Duarte of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. UH said the cuts are "designed to minimize the impact on the student-athlete experience and lessen the financial burden" caused by COVID-19. The measures will go into effect Sept. 1. The cuts include a 7.5% reduction of the athletic budget, the "reduction of 18 support and staff positions," as well as a 5% budget cut for each individual sports program (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 7/8).
