MLL Tries To Save '20 Season With Week-Long Tourney In Annapolis

MLL will hold a one-week tournament at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis later this month in a bid to salvage the ’20 season uprooted by coronavirus. The tournament, coming in the league’s 20th season, will start with a two-day training camp on July 16 with games starting on July 18 featuring all six MLL teams. That will then be whittled down to a four-team playoff that will take place the following weekend, with ESPN’s family of networks, including ESPN+, airing the games. There will be no fans on site but there may be some media. The league said that is has established a COVID-19 safety protocol for players, though it did not detail if and to what degree that involves testing for the virus. MLL is working with sponsor Cascade to offer players a newly developed face shield to help with the protocols. The MLL season will now partially overlap with the Premier Lacrosse League; the PLL is holding a two-week event in Utah that starts July 25.
