MLB Still Hopes To Hold Field Of Dreams Game This Summer

There has been “no change in the status” of MLB’s Field of Dreams Game set for Aug. 13, according to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi. MLB in a statement said, “We hope to have the option to play. Construction is continuing and we are following all CDC and state protocols regarding recommended safety practices, including social distancing, washing hands, and temperature checks before arriving to the site.” Morosi noted it is possible the “teams involved will be different.” The Yankees and White Sox last year were announced as the participants, but they are “not scheduled to play one another this season” (TWITTER.com, 6/30). In Chicago, Lamond Pope noted the ’20 schedule “will feature 60 games, 40 against division foes and 20 interleague games against the corresponding geographical division.” That “seemingly would set up a different matchup” for the game (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 6/30). The N.Y. Post’s Joel Sherman noted the “most likely replacements” for the Yankees are the Cardinals, Cubs and Brewers, though it is a “fluid situation.” Additionally, while MLB “would still like to play the game,” the MLBPA “had not yet signed off on it” (TWITTER.com, 6/30).
