MLS Franchise Notes: NYCFC Delays Orlando Arrival

On Long Island, Ryan Gerbosi noted NYCFC's arrival in Florida for the upcoming MLS is Back Tournament "has been pushed back to Thursday." The club was "expected to fly Saturday afternoon to Orlando before entering the bubble environment being created at Disney World." A club spokesperson said that NYCFC "still intends to participate in the MLS is Back Tournament." The decision was made to "give players a more comfortable training environment at its Orangeburg facility in the lead up to the competition, and no new issues involving COVID-19 have been found within the club" (NEWSDAY, 6/28).

WRITTEN IN THE STARS? In St. Louis, Tom Timmermann noted the wait to learn the name of the city's entry in MLS "drags on, and it will likely drag on for a bit longer." Timmermann: "My answer remains simple: The team should be the St. Louis Stars." Stars was the name of St. Louis' entry in the North American Soccer League -- the name "honors St. Louis' soccer heritage." It would be a "fine tribute to Robert Hermann, one of the owners of the Stars and one of the most influential soccer people in the country" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 6/28).
