NBA Kings Stay In-House For Grant Napear's Interim TV Replacement

The Kings announced that longtime radio broadcaster Gary Gerould "will replace Grant Napear as the team's interim play-by-play announcer when NBA play resumes later this summer," according to Jason Anderson of the SACRAMENTO BEE. Gerould is in his 35th season with the Kings and "will work alongside color commentator Doug Christie during broadcasts on NBC Sports California." The Kings said that they "will conduct a formal search in the coming months in hopes of finding a new television play-by-play announcer" to begin the '20-21 season. Kings Radio pregame, halftime and postgame host Jason Ross "will take over play-by-play duties on the team's radio broadcasts." Anderson notes Napear was the longtime Kings play-by-play announcer and a popular Sacramento radio host, but he "lost both jobs earlier this month after a social media storm led to accusations of racial insensitivity" (SACRAMENTO BEE, 6/26). In San Jose, Chuck Barney notes Christie is "calling the remaining games in Orlando -- virtually from Golden 1 Center when the season resumes." The NBA is "trying to keep the traffic in the Disney World 'bubble' to a minimum," so there will be "no on-site TV broadcasters" (San Jose MERCURY NEWS, 6/26).
